Specialist Status

TECHNOLOGY

As one of an exclusive group of schools across the country, Brine Leas School, a Specialist College of Technology, offers students many opportunities:-

  • A Curriculum which will prepare students for the 21st Century.
  • A high level of investment in resources, including extra teachers and technician support.
  • Close links with partner primary schools, other local High Schools and Post-16 providers of education giving greater continuity for all students.
  • Closer ties with the local community, providing life-long learning, as well as industrial and commercial links.

The award of Technology College status was an important step forward for the school and it has allowed many initiatives to take place in recent years.

Science, Mathematics and Technology all have a new emphasis within the curriculum and within our community. We are continuing to build upon our strengths whilst ensuring that all students receive a balanced curriculum, which reflects their needs and our overall aims as a school.

MODERN LANGUAGES

Brine Leas School was invited to become a Language College in April 2006.  This has enabled us to begin new initiatives within our language department and has allowed us to prepare to further develop language learning within our local community.

At Brine Leas we strongly believe that the experience of learning a language will better equip our students for their part in the 21st Century.  For this reason, all our students study at least one language throughout Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

APPLIED LEARNING

In April 2008, Brine Leas School was awarded a third specialism in Applied Learning.

Applied learning is the practical application of theory that allows learners the opportunity to actively engage with the curriculum they are studying. It is relevant and meaningful to learners as it allows for learning within different contexts and environments. Applied learning allows the learner to interact with teachers, other learners and individuals from outside the classroom.

Applied learning encourages:-

  • Linking understanding and learning activities to job roles
  • Interaction with professionals
  • Real life investigations and active enquiry
  • Learning through doing
  • Interaction with other learners through group work
  • Learning in different environments
